Nap of the day is Diamond Necklace in the 3.35
Day three of Glorious Goodwood marks the halfway stage of the iconic festival, and today’s main attraction is the Group 1 Nassau Stakes for fillies and mares at 3.35pm. That’s one of five races being broadcast live on ITV this afternoon, and you can find my horse racing tips and analysis for each of them below.
The Galway Festival continues in full swing, too. With both meetings running concurrently today, there are plenty of opportunities to take advantage of the various Glorious Goodwood free bets and offers up for grabs.

1.50 Goodwood – Class 2 Heritage Handicap (1m 2f)
This is a tricky race to decipher, with several horses seemingly capable of progressing from handicaps to Group contests in the future.
I am just about favouring Harmonics, who was far from disgraced in the Golden Gates Stakes at Royal Ascot, another Class 2 race. Although the selection finished eighth on that occasion, he was beaten by just four and a half lengths, showing plenty of promise.
That was Harmonics’ fourth career start and his inexperience probably told in the end, particularly with such a bunched finish. However, the fact that John & Thady Gosden thrust him into such a competitive race at this stage of his life suggests they think he has an awful lot of ability.
Harmonics had previously bolted up by six lengths under a penalty at Doncaster, and is related to several winners at Group level. Now he knows a little more about the job, he could be difficult to stop.

2.25 Goodwood – Group 2 Richmond Stakes (6f)
Simon and Ed Crisford’s Flann Sunna is unbeaten in two starts and is therefore likely to attract the attention of the majority of punters.
It is hard to work out what he really achieved last time out in a conditions race, though. He takes on several rivals with Group form from Royal Ascot today and I think there’s far more substance to that.
Concentrate on Coventry form
Adaay of Scarlett (second), Cut A Dash (fourth) and Night In Vegas (fifth) all ran very well in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at the Royal meeting last month, and I think the last-named could well reverse that form. Eve Johnson Houghton’s colt did well to finish where he did that day, having been bumped when making progress towards the final furlong.

Night In Vegas had won his first two starts, including over today’s course and distance. Although that was only a three-runner affair, the third-placed horse has since won a handicap at Doncaster.
He has already proved that Goodwood suits him and, with a clear run, he can return to the winner’s enclosure.

3.00 Goodwood – Group 3 Gordon Stakes (1m 4f)
Enceladus is following the same path as last year’s winner Merchant – who we have unfortunately not seen since – having taken the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot.
It is a wonder how trainer Joseph O’Brien got Enceladus into that race off a mark of 89. He was closely tied on form last season with Cape Cod and South Island, runners who are now rated 98 and 100 respectively.
Enceladus has won both of his races impressively this term and the form of his last victory has already been franked. Al Azd, the runner-up, won by four and a half lengths at Ascot last Friday, having been raised 8lb for his previous effort.
It is never easy stepping up from handicap company into Pattern company. Still, there is every reason to believe that Enceladus can do just that, despite having up to 8lb to find with the field on official ratings.

🚨3.35 Goodwood – Group 1 Nassau Stakes (1m 2f)
The clear bet of the day at Goodwood has to be Diamond Necklace (nap), who is a very confident selection to extend her unbeaten record to six.
Despite racing only five times, the daughter of St Mark’s Basilica has already claimed three Group 1 victories, including two Classics. Diamond Necklace won the Poule d’Essai Des Pouliches (French 1,000 Guineas) on her seasonal reappearance, before following up in the Prix de Diane (Oaks).
Trends make her an obvious candidate
Aidan O’Brien has won this race six times, each time with three-year-olds, including the last two runnings with Opera Singer and Whirl. This race has been dominated in recent years by the Classic generation, who have won nine of the last 13 editions.
According to the bookies, five-year-olds Friendly Soul and See The Fire are the only real competition for Diamond Necklace. It is very difficult to make a case for either of those upsetting the favourite, however, as they are both rated below her, and have to concede a 9lb weight-for-age allowance.
If Diamond Necklace runs anywhere near her best, she will win this incredibly easily. It would be the biggest upset of the week were she to lose her unbeaten record, but I cannot see that happening.

4.10 Goodwood – Class 3 Handicap (5f)
The live racing on ITV wraps up with an 18-runner handicap over the minimum. It is impossible to be confident about any of the runners in this contest, but a chance is taken on Old Is Gold.
Andrew Balding’s runner was highly touted as a two-year-old, going off as the 7/2 favourite for the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot. He finished eighth on that occasion and has failed to win in three subsequent starts.
Old Is Gold has been off the track since a below-par reappearance at Sandown in April. There was market support once again that day, having been the 11/4 favourite, so connections must believe he retains some of his initial ability.
I am assuming that Old Is Gold has been given time to grow and improve since his last run. If he has done that, a mark of 86 should be well within his range.
