Karlie Kloss explained why female friendships have become “so critical” in her adulthood.

The Project Runway alum’s comment came after she discussed attending Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding.

“I try to be the friend that I want people to be to me,” the model said.

Karlie Kloss can’t help but preach about the importance of female friendships after her appearance at Taylor Swift’s wedding raised some eyebrows.

“I think this is part of growing into my 20s was realizing what kind of friend I wanted to be,” Kloss said during the July 30 episode of The World’s First Podcast With Erin & Sara Foster.

Kloss admitted she put “so much emphasis on romantic relationships” but female friendships also needed time and attention to thrive.

“This is also the stage of life that we’re all in, of just when you’re so busy with your family, then work, friendships can often not get watered,” the model explained. “They are so critical.”

Kloss added that she’s “very grateful for the real ones” in her life.

The Project Runwayalum explained that she doesn’t even talk to some of her “realest closest” friends for months. However, they will chat on social media.

“We don’t have time to have a three-hour FaceTime date, which I would love,” Kloss said. “We DM, which is so impersonal, but I respond to their Stories, they respond to mine. It’s so dumb.”

When it comes to the sheer number of friendships she has, Kloss keeps one rule: “I try to be the friend that I want people to be to me.”

Kloss’ discussion on female friendships comes after she caused some confusion by attending Swift’s iconic Madison Square Garden wedding to Travis Kelce earlier this month.

For some context, Kloss and Swift were joined at the hip during the early 2010s. The model was even present at all of the singer’s iconic Rhode Island Fourth of July parties (bring them back) and appeared in Swift’s 2015 “Bad Blood” music video. However, fans started to speculate in 2016 that they had a falling out.

When asked about the alleged rift during a 2018 interview with The New York Times, she responded with a poignant, “Don’t believe everything you read.” That same year, Kloss was photographed with Swift at her Reputation album tour. Kloss also attended Swift’s Eras Tour in 2023, but she wasn’t in the VIP tent.

During an appearance on Today earlier this week, Kloss was asked about attending Swift and Kelce’s nuptials — and the model stayed pretty tight-lipped.

“Listen, I try to protect the privacy of my friends’ personal lives,” she said. “But what I will say is that they’re an amazing couple and I’m so happy for them.”
