Kevin McHale Issues Fiery Response to ‘Glee Curse’ After 3 Deaths

Kevin McHale just issued a fiery response to a Glee fan theory about a “curse” following three deaths from the show.

On July 29, the actor who played Artie Abrams took to X with a sharp response to the enduring idea of a curse on Glee cast members after Cory Monteith, Naya Rivera, and Mark Salling all died. (They played Finn Hudson, Santana Lopez, and Noah “Puck” Puckerman, respectively.)

“Let me log off today because the way too many of you talk about real people who have passed as a ‘sacrifice’ or a ‘curse’ in regards to a TV show is f***ing diabolical and untethered from any sort of humanity or reality,” McHale wrote.

He then bluntly declared, “Get f***ed.”

In the comments, X users were divided in their reactions. One supporter wrote, “Couldn’t agree more. It’s so tiring to read the comments of people who said something unnecessary like that. Please stop.”

Another echoed, “I’m so sorry, man. I cannot even fathom what that’s like when you and your other cast members have lost your sweet friends the way you have. People act like what it said on the internet doesn’t affect people in real life. It makes me sad.”

However, someone else insisted, “I don’t believe in curses, but dude, take a pill. Any cluster of untimely deaths is going to raise talk about a ‘curse.’ See the ‘Kennedy curse.’ It’s a type of apophenia, basic human nature. What’s untethered is your outsize reaction to it.”

A different critic responded, “Same to you. If you can’t handle the truth, stay off social media. Your little feelings get hurt, stay off social media.”

McHale’s comments came amid renewed buzz surrounding the musical teen drama series after creator Ryan Murphy floated the idea of a reboot. In an interview with People published on July 28, Murphy pointed out that Glee has “come back around.”

“So many young people now watch it,” he said. “And I’m like, ‘Maybe we should revisit that show.”

He added, “My nostalgia and love for that show is enough that I’m like, ‘Well, maybe people would like to see a new incarnation of that in some capacity.’ So yeah, I love that show, and I loved what it became and what it meant to so many people.”

Glee aired for six seasons from 2009 to 2015. As of writing, a reboot has not been announced.
