Prince William 'snubbed' Harry and Meghan to avoid 'brutal showdown'

Prince William reportedly ensured that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were denied lodging in Windsor during their latest UK trip to prevent a potentially volatile encounter between the feuding siblings.

While King Charles is believed to be working toward mending ties with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, new reports indicate the Prince of Wales was intent on keeping his younger brother at a distance from his family's residence.

According to Woman magazine's Royal Editor Emily Andrews, William was "unhappy" after Harry and Meghan's plans to visit Britain with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet became public, sparking rumors they might stay at one of the Royal Family's Windsor properties.

Andrews alleged that William expressed his position privately.

"I'm told [Prince William] made it clear that Harry and Meghan were not to be offered Windsor Castle, or indeed any royal accommodation in Windsor," she wrote.

"He did not want to run the risk of seeing his younger brother - or Meghan - on his home turf."

The Prince and Princess of Wales previously resided at Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor estate, located just a short distance from Windsor Castle and Harry and Meghan's former UK residence, Frogmore Cottage, which could have led to the two families encountering each other. The Waleses currently live several miles away at Forest Lodge.

Andrews indicated William was determined to prevent any direct confrontation, asserting a "brutal showdown" between the siblings was something he sought to avoid "at all costs".

"I'd go as far as to say that he'd snub Harry if he came anywhere near," she added.

The assertions emerge as the divide between William and Harry continues to display minimal signs of healing, despite reports suggesting King Charles is more open to restoring relations with his younger son.

The siblings are understood not to have spent substantial time together since their uncle's funeral in August 2024, when reports indicated they kept their distance from each other.

While Harry was reportedly invited to stay at Buckingham Palace during the family's July visit, contradictory reports surfaced about whether he planned to accept. Ultimately, the Sussexes were not seen in Windsor at any point during the trip.

Meanwhile, William and Catherine were elsewhere attending the DMMI Royal Charity Polo Cup while Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet held a private meeting with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House.

Royal biographer Russell Myers has also indicated that William and Catherine have intentionally chosen to distance themselves from the Sussexes to safeguard both their family and the monarchy's future.

In his book William & Catherine, Myers asserted the Princess of Wales initially tried to serve as a mediator as the relationship between the brothers worsened.

However, he claimed that by the time Harry chose to withdraw from his duties as a working royal, Catherine had come to terms with the fact that reconciliation was improbable.

"Sources suggest Catherine had less interest than her husband in trying to persuade Harry to stay in his current role," Myers wrote, adding that she believed William and Harry's differing roles as "heir and the spare" meant tensions had become inevitable.

Neither Kensington Palace nor representatives for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have commented on the latest claims.
