The longtime couple's family has spoken out for the first time since the news of their tragic loss
Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner's loved ones are speaking out following their "tragic" deaths.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time,” his family said in a statement to Variety.
On Sunday, Dec. 14, the director and his wife were found dead at their home by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), PEOPLE confirmed. The All My Children star was 78, and his wife was 68.
Multiple sources then confirmed that the couple were killed by their son, Nick.
The couple, who met when Rob directed When Harry Met Sally, wed in 1989 and shared two other children: Romy and Jake. Rob was also dad to daughter Tracy, whom he adopted when he was married to Penny Marshall. (Tracy's biological father is Marshall's late first husband, Michael Henry.)

The LAFD was called to the couple's home at about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday to provide medical aid, a spokesperson told PEOPLE. Upon arrival, they found Rob and Michele dead.
Sources told PEOPLE that their daughter, Romy, found them dead.
News initially broke that two people had been found dead at the director's home, before it was confirmed that he and Michele were the victims.
According to TMZ, they suffered wounds consistent with a knife attack.

Rob first rose to fame on All in the Family, playing Mike "Meathead" Stivic, a role that earned him two Emmy Awards.
He's known for his directing, producing and acting work, including his iconic directorial debut,This Is Spinal Tap (1984). Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987) Misery (1990) and A Few Good Men (1992) are among his other most beloved projects.
Rob also had major roles in Sleepless in Seattle (1993), Bullets Over Broadway (1994), The First Wives Club (1996) and The Wolf of Wall Street (2013).
Prior to Michele, he was married to the late Penny Marshall, who died at 75 in 2018 of complications from diabetes. They divorced after a decade of marriage, and Rob adopted Marshall's daughter, Tracy Reiner, from the beloved sitcom and screen actress' marriage to Michael Henry.
