In a new interview, Tom Brady said "moderation" is the key when it comes to his diet

Brady, 48, said he tries to make healthy choices but he also understands "the reality of life"

The future Hall of Fame quarterback once kept up a diet in which he avoided consuming white sugar, dairy, white flour, iodized salt and caffeine, among other items

Tom Brady is all about moderation, which means he eats Nutella just like the rest of us!The seven-time Super Bowl champ, who famously kept up a rigid diet during his playing days, has seemingly relaxed his food restrictions in the years since he has retired, he said in an interview on CNBC, shared on Tuesday, March 31.“I think it’s moderation in all things, and I think there’s probably been, people have gone kinda overboard with the rigidity of my lifestyle or diet,” Brady, 48, said. “I have kids and I have Halloweens and birthday parties and we’re like a normal family, so I try to make really healthy choices as often as possible. But when you’re watching football games and you’re at games, you're traveling and you're in airports, I understand the reality of life as well.”

In the interview, Brady talked about his partnership with Ferrero, whose chocolate candies Brady said he enjoys. In one commercial tied to the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, the former New England Patriots signal-caller chomps on a Nestle Crunch bar and Butterfinger, among other Ferrero products.Brady added that he also offers treats to his kids: Jack, 18, whom he shares with ex Bridget Moynahan, and Benjamin Rein, 16, and Vivian Lake, 13, whom he shares with ex-wife Gisele Bündchen.

“I make Nutella pancakes for my kids,” Brady shared. “When we were over in Milan for the Olympics we were eating Nutella pizzas.”To counter all the sugar, the Fox Sports lead analyst said he makes sure that he still exercises "a lot" and drinks plenty of water.

Amid his retirement from the league in 2023, Brady told PEOPLE that he was planning on keeping up his rigid diet — in which he steered clear of white sugar, dairy, white flour, iodized salt and caffeine, avoided nightshade vegetables, and even abstained from strawberries."I don't think it's a strict regimen," he told PEOPLE at the time. "I think it's just trying to make healthy choices that allow me to live the life I want to live."These days, the Pizza Hut and Dunkin’ pitchman is happy to connect with his audience through his commercials, he said — even if it means indulging too.“Moderation in all things, we have only one life to live and we should enjoy it,” he said.
