Ciao viewers! Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) is back and this time she's thriving in Italy with her new flame Marcello Muratori (Eugenio Franceschini) while also heading Agence Grateau in Rome.
However, life, even for Emily, is hardly a bed of roses and our resident American in Europe "faces professional and romantic challenges as she adapts to life in a new city."
Series creator Darren Star told Netflix's Tudum, the new season is "a tale of two cities: Rome and Paris.”
“Straddling both, Emily takes love and life to the next level," Star said. “From Parisian rooftops to Roman ruins, we can’t wait to share where Emily’s next chapter takes us."
Just as "everything falls into place" for Emily, "a work idea backfires, and the fallout cascades into heartbreak and career setbacks," Season 5's synopsis says. "Seeking stability, Emily leans into her French lifestyle, until a big secret threatens one of her closest relationships."

Labeling Season 5 as one of his "favorite seasons of the show," Star said the story "goes off in a different direction and "feels very fresh."
"It’s not about Emily’s relationship with Gabriel anymore — that’s not the engine of the show," Star said. "There’s a lot of character growth for Emily, also. The relationships feel more mature this season, and Ithink there’s a lot for the entire ensemble to do."
Star added he "really wanted to give the show a lot of scope this season, and expand the footprint of where it can go and what it could be."
