Wizards Beyond Waverly Place season 2 is now streaming on Disney+

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is gearing up to cast its final spell.

On Thursday, April 2, the Wizards of Wavery Place revival series announced on Instagram that it will conclude with its third season, which will premiere this summer on Disney+ and Disney Channel.

The final chapter of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will be told across four episodes, with Selena Gomez — who plays Alex Russo in both the original and reboot series — set to make her directorial debut with its premiere episode.

“Get ready for one last spell,” the Disney wizard series captioned its video, which shows the scene from the season 2 finale where Alex jumps into the portal to the world of dark magic as a sacrifice to take down the evil Lord Morsus.

Though the season 2 finale led fans to believe Alex may be dead, David Henrie, who leads the spinoff as Justin Russo and serves as executive producer alongside Gomez, 33, was quick to reassure fans that her story may not be over just yet.

"Just so you know, Alex Russo is tougher than you think - and there’s a lot more to come," he wrote in X post shared on Oct. 8. "You’re asking all the right questions. Stay tuned, #WizardsBeyond has got some magical surprises up our sleeves.”

Season 3 follows Billie, played by Janice LeAnn Brown, as she is “still reeling from losing Alex at the end of season 2” and “discovers that the only way to rescue her mother is to reunite with her long-lost father,” according to the series’ official logline.

“As her family bands together to find Alex, Billie realizes that their combined power is the only way the Russos can defeat the evil plaguing them.”

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place also stars Alkai Thiele as Roman Russo, Max Matenko as Milo Russo, Taylor Cora as Winter, and Mimi Gianopulos as Giada Russo.

Ahead of the season 2 finale, Henrie, 36, spoke to PEOPLE and revealed his ideal ending for the series.

“I hope that we can repackage a beautiful sibling message, factoring in where they’re at in life now,” he said. “Because I think as we get older, families go their separate ways and everyone starts doing their own thing, but that bond is always there and should always be there.”

The actor opened up about getting to executive produce the show alongside his longtime costar and friend and said he’s seen a "different side" of Gomez.

“Getting to produce a project together has made some slight changes in our friendship in a sense of, we've never really talked business or professionally about anything. It’s always just been really on a friend level,” Henrie said. “So it's been kind of fun getting to talk about something we both really care about and try to make that thing as good as we can.”
