The WNBA pulled a clip featuring Paige Bueckers and Angel Reese after its own post turned playful trash talk into a rules question. The deleted social media video appeared to show the two stars putting money on a game between their teams.
The league removed the clip after it showed a wager between two stars
TMZ reported that the league uploaded the video to its official X account before removing it. The exchange took place during All-Star Weekend, ahead of the July 29 game between Bueckers’ Dallas Wings and Reese’s Atlanta Dream.
In the clip, Reese held four $100 bills and told Bueckers, “I know y’all gonna lose, but if y’all win, you get the 400.” When an interviewer reminded Bueckers about the wager before the matchup, she replied, “Bet. I’m standing on that.”
The league’s caption reportedly described the exchange as “the bet” Bueckers made with Reese. That wording drew added attention because the video came directly from the WNBA’s social media team, not from a fan account.
Atlanta ultimately defeated Dallas 82-81 after overcoming a 15-point deficit, according to the WNBA’s official game summary. Reese recorded 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Bueckers finished with 16 points. After the game, Reese joked that she expected an Apple Pay transfer.

The controversy centers on Section 5(c) of the league’s collective bargaining agreement. TMZ cited language barring players from directly or indirectly wagering money or anything of value on the outcome, score or another aspect of a WNBA competition. The rule allows the commissioner to consider penalties after a hearing, including a fine, suspension, dismissal or disqualification.
However, deleting the post does not prove that the league concluded either player violated the rule. TMZ reported that the WNBA had not announced any punishment as of July 30.
The awkward sequence placed the league’s social media decision under as much scrutiny as the players’ exchange. Reese recently responded after the WNBA suspended Sandy Brondello, while she and Bueckers previously drew attention ahead of their USA Basketball senior team debuts.
