A billionaire biohacker who set out to achieve immortality is now apparently reconsidering his approach after being diagnosed with an incurable condition.

Bryan Johnson, whose attention-grabbing stunts in his quest for eternal youth have included receiving blood plasma transfusions from his son and sharing explicit updates about his wife's intimate health on social media, recently disclosed that he's been diagnosed with autoimmune gastritis. The chronic, incurable disorder causes the immune system to mistakenly target and damage healthy cells in the stomach's protective lining.

The diagnosis seems to have prompted the 48-year-old, who's often included in the 'looksmaxxing' trend, to reflect on whether his relentless pursuit of enhanced health and extended lifespan has been worthwhile. This comes after Clavicular says the U.S. might have ‘a department of looksmaxxing’ amid military testosterone screening.

In a post on X, Johnson wrote, "Been thinking things over and wonder if I've taken this whole longevity thing too far."

The wellness enthusiast has previously spoken about his ambition to 'conquer death', and boasted about possessing the physiology of an 18-year-old, but this recent statement suggests that even he may not be able to outrun mortality's inevitable march.

Johnson's diagnosis follows years of unconventional medical interventions and experimental therapies that have cost him approximately $10 million (£7.5m), all pursued in his mission to extend his lifespan. The tech billionaire routinely undergoes testing to monitor the speed and quality of his sperm, striving to maintain fertility levels comparable to those of a much younger individual, reports the Daily Star.

He also asserts he has reduced microplastics in his semen by 95% through a daily regimen of spending 20 minutes in dry saunas while positioning an ice pack on his groin.

He disclosed on X that microplastic concentration in his ejaculate dropped dramatically from 165 particles per milliliter in November 2024 to merely 20 particles per milliliter by July 2025.

"The therapy we think most responsible for this reduction is sauna as it also eliminated most environmental toxins in my body, including those linked to various plastics," he wrote.

Johnson previously injected himself with his teenage son's blood in his quest for youth, though the father appears to have discontinued this after questioning its effectiveness.

He recently claimed to have made a "clone" of himself as a newborn baby so he can harvest its organs. The tech mogul stated the "baby" will also be used to test novel new therapies.

Following his post on X, Johnson's supporters flooded the replies section urging him to stay committed, with one user writing, "I think you should continue doing what you've been doing! Every thing happens for reason! Your disorder isn't fatal so I think you should continue pushing the limits of Longevity experimentation! You're looking great so obviously it's working".

Another wrote, "Hang in there man. Don't lose hope. Someone had to take the initiative. Lets strive to live long and prosper!!"

However, others seemed to welcome the idea of embracing a more relaxed lifestyle, with one commenter putting it simply, "Just go have a beer and a smoke and chill out for a bit. It will be fine."
